You have got to see this collection of Victorian Christmas Cards.. (The headline says "10+" but there are actually more than 50.) Many of them are seriously creepy; most are just sort of like, WTH?! A few are actually really cute. I think maybe some of these were intended to be humorous and we just don't get Victorian humor.
I loved the drunk birds one. Victorian humor was weird, but then again, they were the people who thought telling creepy ghost stories at Christmas was good amusement.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if these cards were saved BECAUSE they were weird; I've seen some weird current Christmas cards. (One with R2-D2 beeping out something interpreted as "Happy Holidays," which I actually bought and sent to a few of my friends)
That's a good point about cards being saved because they were weird. People would be less likely to save a card that was typical.
