  2. It's interesting how the downtown (the older section, I presume) is canted on an angle (northwest to southeast?) and the outlying areas, outside the ring of interstates, are on a more conventional north-south grid.

    Artifact of railroad days, maybe?

    1. That is interesting. I had noticed but never really thought about it before. Maybe the first people to build there just said "okay let's put a street here" and other streets were built around that, then later the surveyors came in figured out the north south east west grid.
